Pulkovo Air Traffic Control in St. Petersburg protected by Delta Electronics UPS

Initial Situation
Delta Electronics implemented the Delta Modulon NH Plus Series 20-80kVA into the air traffic control equipment at Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg, Russia. The project was executed by the integrator company Eltek in cooperation with distributor Spectr RS. Eltek was acquired by Delta Electronics in 2015, and since then the company has been operating as a Delta Electronics subsidiary.

The customer’s major concern was to maintain reliable operation of the air traffic control centre equipment for flight safety within the Pulkovo Airport control area. The main requirement imposed by the
north-western branch of State Air Traffic Management Corporation of the Russian Federation was to ensure 100% redundancy of all electricity consumers with a total capacity of 32kW. The off-line/on-line UPS that had been installed before failed to provide uninterruptible power in emergency cases.

Project Realisation
Eltek, acting as an integrator company in this project, decided on the Delta Modulon NH Plus Series 20-80kVA installed in parallel connection at Pulkovo Airport. The main criteria for selecting the Delta Electronics solution were the high reliability of the equipment, hot-swappable modular design as well as the availability in stock and, consequently, the minimum delivery time.

The Modulon NH Plus Series UPS maintains a high efficiency level of up to 94% and an extremely low total cost of ownership regarding both capital and operating costs. The series’ N+X module and built-in system redundancy ensures the system’s reliability and versatility, which makes the Modulon NH Plus Series the new standard for protection of mission critical power supply applications.

Conclusion
In the future, when the capacity of air traffic control centre equipment must be increased, the customer - the north-western branch of the State Air Traffic Management Corporation of the Russian Federation - is ready to consider the delivery of additional UPS Delta Electronics modules and their installation in the reserved space.

“Fruitful cooperation with Delta Electronics enabled us to expand the horizons for our business, providing customers with reliable equipment and favourable prices, which nowadays is one of the most relevant issues”, said Vladimir Vybornykh, Director of Telecom and Industrial project department of Eltek AS Russian office.
