Delta EMEA, a leading company in the region, recently concluded its employee-only CSR initiative, known as the 'A Better Environment for a Better You'. Spanning from 23 May to 23 June 23 2022, this initiative aimed to inspire colleagues that the impact of movement extend beyond personal health benefits; they also contribute to the well-being of our environment. Over the course of a month, more than 110 of Delta EMEA employees actively participated in various sporting activities to support the rehabilitation of the Amazon rainforest. For every 10 kilometers they have covered, Delta EMEA would plant a tree.
Our CSR initiative focused on supporting the preservation of the Amazon rainforest, an ecosystem of unparalleled significance. Spanning nine countries, this extraordinary tropical rainforest is home to an astounding 30% of the world's plant and animal species. Its immeasurable value is further demonstrated by its vast carbon storage capacity, estimated at 90-140 billion metric tons. By actively engaging in initiatives like ours, we contribute to the fight against climate change and safeguard the natural habitat for the Amazon's iconic wildlife.
With the participation of people from our EMEA colleagues, we strive to protect and restore the Amazon rainforest. Each tree planted through our initiative not only aids in stabilizing the climate but also serves a greater purpose. Indirectly, the trees provide work opportunities through agroforestry, helping fellow citizens attain sustainable livelihoods. By supporting the United Nations' global goals, our efforts align with a broader vision of social and environmental progress. Through collaboration with the esteemed organization One Tree Planted, our team successfully covered 18,080 kilometers, saving 3,877kg of CO2, inspired by their success we rounded up the results and planted an impressive 2,500 trees.
Delta EMEA remains committed to its corporate social responsibility and will continue to spearhead initiatives aimed at making a positive and lasting difference in the communities we serve. Through out our initiative, we have not only helped to restore Amazon forest, but also fostered a sense of unity and purpose among our employees. Together, we can create a better future for all, one step and one exercise at a time.
